Statistics Core

The Statistics Core is directed by Robert L. Strawderman, Professor in the Department of Statistical Science and the Department of Biological Statistics and Computational Biology. Current objectives of the core include

  • Increasing the utilization of appropriate cutting-edge statistical methodology for causal inference, event history modeling, longitudinal data analysis, missing data, multilevel modeling, spatial statistics, survival (mortality) analysis, and other techniques directly relevant to population research through collaboration, consulting and education;
  • Supporting the use and implementation of well-accepted population methodology;
  • Sponsoring seminars and workshops on advanced statistical methods useful in population research. Ideas for speakers and/or workshops are always appreciated; please submit these to Carrie Chalmers or Robert Strawderman

An important ancillary, long-term goal of the proposed Statistics Core is to facilitate interdisciplinary collaborative efforts between CPP affiliates and faculty in the Department of Statistical Sciences (DSS) who have the statistical expertise needed to advance the state of population research beyond its current technical boundaries.

The Cornell Statistical Consulting Unit provides a key conduit through which CPP affiliates can obtain statistical consulting advice from participating statistics faculty and professional staff. CSCU can also serve as a point of contact for faculty in the Department of Statistical Science, several of whom are also CPP affiliates. CSCU provides a range of services useful to affiliates. Please click here for information on how to contact CSCU. If you make an appointment, please be sure to mention that you are a CPP affiliate!

Note: while CSCU is technically a fee-for-service unit, many CPP affiliates are provided with free access to CSCU through their respective college of affiliation. Please click here for current information on access restrictions and fees. CPP affiliates requiring greater access to CSCU than currently provided by their college may apply to the Statistics Core for financial assistance; please contact the core director for details.
